Power quality (PQ) and demand-side management (DSM) are the two crucial components in ensuring power reliability in an electricity network. Unfortunately, both of them are almost absent in the developing world’s electricity network due to financial and technical limitations. Nowadays, access to the internet in developing nations is increasing rapidly. Hence as a short-term solution to PQ and DSM, the internet of things (IoT) based smart meter (SM) is proposed and demonstrated its practical application in households.
